Mission Participant Description

10-Day Summer Participant
Summer participants should have a stable relationship with the Lord and come with a heart ready to serve others and consider the needs of others as more important than their own. Participants should be in good health. Participants will need to be flexible, able to deal with sudden problems or changes of plans. They should be able to handle hard work, a rigorous schedule, foods they’re not used to, and less-than-ideal sleeping and bathroom conditions. Summer participants must be able to accept and act upon instructions and submit to authority.

6-Week Summer Intern
Summer interns should exhibit all the same characteristics as 10-day summer participants. It is important that they also be able to engage well with people. Being introverted and needing alone time is fine, but over the long haul of the summer interns will need to be able to handle a lot of time and contact with other people. They must not be divisive or prone to gossip. Interns should have a positive attitude in general, be full of grace for others, and be able to handle interpersonal conflict should it arise. We all have problems and need the support of brothers and sisters in Christ, but interns who are too “high maintenance” and constantly focus on their own problems will eventually be a drain on the staff and other interns around them and hinder WFM.

1-Year Inner-city Internship
Inner-city internship should exhibit all the same characteristics as 10-day summer participants and summer interns. We are looking for people that are pretty self-motivated, have a strong sense of calling, and are willing to work hard at language, culture, studies, and developing relationships. We need students that can be good team players as we live in community and look for people that promote unity in the body focusing on the needs of the group/ministry rather than themselves. Leadership ability is helpful since we are working in pioneer areas. Having a teachable spirit and being open to new ways of seeing things is also very important in this type of ministry.
